The Club recently had the pleasure of attending a woodturning workshop with renowned turner Guilio Marcolongo. Everyone who attended had a great day and learnt a lot. Ray Pruden and Chris Newell has shared their experience at the workshop below:
Ray Prudden –
“The day started as ten eager participants gathered to meet Guilio. His warm appreciation of our attendance gave little warning of his rapid approach and enthusiasm for the day ahead. A short demonstration of a different use for the roughing gouge soon had us busy turning the head of our first project.
Chris Newell –
“The workshop was outstanding and very well organised by Charlie and Guilio, Guilio was an excellent teacher and has a lot of patience with his students. I have not attended a workshop of this nature and it was an eye opener, being a relatively newbie to woodturning and the only real teaching I have had is from the guys at EWT Dennis, Clinton and Charlie, although the projects Guilio showed us looked relatively difficult, Guilio’s teaching method was easy to understand and he was on hand when in any difficulty, which I am not afraid to admit, I was one who had some issues.
The day was long and the lunch break very welcome, snags were awesome and the deserts fantastic, thanks to the members wives who baked those wonderful slices. I know that by the time I got home I was exhausted and aching.”
