Are you interested in learning to Turn Wood, or do you want some professional training to improve on your current skill level. Are you interested in Joining the Club?
Well, Eastern Woodturners offers two “Taster Courses” which are for turners of all experience levels.
Held at our Club rooms (within the Mont De Lancey Homestead) generally on the third Saturday of each month, both courses run for approximately 3 hours each (depending on the number of attendees). The next available course dates are listed on the main page of this site – click the EWT logo above to link you to this page.
Please Note – Due to insurance and liability requirements, all participants must be aged 16 years or older.
Hands on instruction is provided by professional woodturners that have both lengthy teaching and woodturning experience. Held in a friendly and fun environment we welcome those of all experience levels to come and make some shavings!
Below are the breakdown of the courses Eastern Woodturners offer:
Spindle Turning Taster Course - $100pp
Spindle Turning forms the basis of woodturning and is recommended for the beginner turner. This initial course focuses on introduction to the basic woodturning tool set, safe practices and procedures whilst turning and how to use particular techniques during spindle turning.
The Spindle Taster Course is also a requirement for becoming a member of the Eastern Woodturners Club as completing this course will allow you to become proficient in the use of Club equipment and relevant safety procedures used at the Club.
Bowl Turning Taster Course
Non Member Price - $150pp
New Member Price - $100pp
Once you understand the basics of woodturning, turning a bowl is the next stage. The Bowl Turning Taster Course focuses on moving you knowledge to the next level by introducing you to the fundamentals of turning a bowl from wood. Instruction in additional tools used, safety practices whilst turning bowls and how to use particular bowl turning techniques are provided during this course.
All attendees will walk away with the completed bowl they have turned during the day along with a new skill set to further develop in their woodturning hobby.
Bandsaw Safety Course - Free to all Financial Members
The Bandsaw is one of the key pieces of equipment used by most woodturners, particularly when it comes to preparing wood for turning.
Although very useful, it can also be very dangerous, which is why Eastern Woodturners offers its members a free Bandsaw Safety Course. This course covers all of the safety considerations required when operating a bandsaw along with minor maintenance and operating procedures. Completion of this course also allows members to use the Club’s bandsaw located within our club rooms.
If you are interested in completing one (or both) of the Taster Courses we have to offer, or require more information on our courses, please contact our resident course instructor Clinton Capuano on Ph: O4O8 OO4 II8 to make your booking. The next scheduled date for the taster courses is also displayed on the main page of this site – click the EWT logo above to take you there.
All payments for these courses are made in cash on the day the course is completed.
